A few day's ago found an update for Object Dock plus in SDC, so I installed the update and clicked yes to restart my machine. When it rebooted I found windows wouldn't start at all not even in safe mode or last known good settings, 'completely stuffed' so I took to the shop and just got it back today less 35 quid . They said the registry was corrupt, what did I do wrong should I have quit object dock before updating, I guess so, a warning would have been nice!!!. Is this just a freak accident or has anyone else suffered the same fate and can someone tell me if the update installed correctly , I have file version 1.3.0.524 is this the latest build?.

A warning message may be in order for Stardock products.

WindowBlinds free standing has a warning of sorts where the installer presents a text message, and an 'unload WindowBlinds' button during install process.

Adobe tells you to unload any open Adobe products to avoid the need to reboot.

This may be a good direction for all software companies to go.

The old school approach (where my teachers learned and taught me), is to unload all programs, return Windows to the default settings - and then proceed to install new (or updated) software.

Too late for your case, Jonep, but may serve as a helpful hint to those reading.

I didn't unload OD while updating, and had no problem. And yes, you have the latest version.

Cheers Koasati its all working fine now and I didn't lose anything. If no one has the same prob the only thing I can think of is that my machine came out of standby as it was on all night and needed to restart properly before updating anything maybe? ,but found the release notes and they do say to quit OD before doin anything to it.

There should be a warning for apps like ObjectDock or RightClick to NOT quitting them before an update. Settings will be gone. I NEVER end Stardock apps before an update.

I didn't end OD+ before updating the the last update. Not any other either. Haven't had any problems with it.
There might be something with standby mode, not sure. But if you search the net for standby and hibernate mode there's some complaint about it not working perfectly.

...hm... I just came to think of something... I'm updating OD+ on my laptop as we speak. ...type... ehhrr.. anyways, I put that in standby and hibernate alot. Hope the same thing wont happend here. We'll see in a minute.

btw, what anti-virus program do you have?
